We got to see Ricky Gervais!!

I’ve always wanted to see Ricky Gervais live after watching all his other comedy stand ups. I saw on X that he was doing some practise shows called Ricky and Friends and have tried to get some before, but they sell out so quick. Clearly with Ricky being the legendary British comedy act that he is, it was always going to be difficult to get tickets, even for his practise shows. I was gutted!

So, I’m scrolling through X one Friday morning in March to see that his tickets for this show went online at 10am that day. I thought ‘why not try, you never know!’. So I clicked on the link to see if I could get anything. It felt like I was on the same page for ages just waiting to see if there were any tickets. I know the screen well as I’ve seen it a few times and then it always says Sold Out!

A few minutes later, just when I was expecting the sold-out message, I got through to the ticket section. OMG to say I wasn’t excited by this point was an understatement, I actually started panicking as I was seeing all dates I could potently get. Tim wasn’t in the room with me at this point and I needed him so we could choose the date. I waited for what seemed like ages but finally Tim came back into the room, and we were able to pick the date, Tuesday 17th March at 5pm in Leicester Square, London. YES, we are finally going to see Ricky Gervais LIVE!!

All we had to do now was get our train tickets and plan our day, sounds easy and it was, until the day of the show that was!

We did make sure we left a couple of hours before, just in case anything unexpected happened. Well, as any typical train journey (if you read the news), the train was delayed due to a signal failure on our track. Oh and the longer we waited it seemed to get worse, the train was no longer going to London Kings Cross station, we were now going to Saint Pancras station which meant we needed to think about our journey and how we can make it in time. This was a little worrying as it states on the tickets that if Ricky starts, you can’t get in so arrive 30 minutes before. OMG by this point I was so worried that we were going to miss it, generally crying on the inside!

We made it to London Leicester Square 30 minutes before the show was due to start which was great, but it meant that we had no chance to get lunch like we had hoped.  We got through, grabbed a drink and took our seats. It was filling up very fast and you could feel the excitement from everyone. Then the lights went down and Rickt Gervais came on stage to so much cheering from the crowd, it was good.

Ricky started with some jokes for about 10 minutes before introducing the first of 3 acts. After each one Ricky would come back on stage and do some more jokes before introducing the next. I do feel a little bad that I can’t remember the 3 acts that were with Ricky as they were funny, not completely to my taste, but we only went there to see him.

The whole show lasted an hour, but it was very funny, I don’t think anyone left there not entertained. It was nice to hear some new material that isn’t on one of his world tours shows and I can say that all his jokes were funny even if some may be taken the wrong way by others (sensitive sous), it’s just comedy and brilliant comedy at that. I can’t wait to see what his actual show is going to be like, I believe it’s going to be even better than the rest. It really was funny.

Ricky Gervais is one of those comedians that if either love or hate. His jokes can be controversial depending on who you ask, and people can/have got upset by them but I think as long as you remember that they are only jokes, no harm or malice meant, then he is extremely funny.

I would love to be able to see that whole show live when he does it but unfortunately, I don’t believe we will be able to get tickets as they sell out so fast and I truly understand why. At least now I can say that I have seen Ricky Gervais Live, and we saw the raw material before he performs it to millions of people across the world.
