Naked amongst Strangers
Now it’s Wednesday (our fourth day) the weather has changed and it’s looking warm with a blue sky and only a few clouds, finally! We went for a walk and found a market which helped give the clouds time to disappear and when we returned around midday, it was time to get out there, but maybe we would start in the hot tub! We figured that now that the weather was looking better, this would be the day we go around the front with the other guests and try to mingle, after all, this is supposed to be something new and different so there’s no point in hiding! Turns out, we had the place to ourselves this day as all the guests and host where out. We had no idea, but we thought why not make the most of this, so that’s exactly what we did for hours.
They came back later and some joined us in the garden sunbathing including the host, Karie. This made me feel better as it meant I wasn’t the only female sunning naked. There was one other lady there, but she stayed dressed or at least she was every time we saw her.
So, Thursday morning I woke up feeling a little tender as it would appear I caught the sun more than I thought I did the day before. This was intentional as I hate going back from a holiday with no colour, my only problem though is I am either white or red! We went for a morning walk around the town before heading back for some breakfast. The sun was out shining and feeling very warm by midday, so we picked up our towels and header into the front garden. I didn’t think anything of it today as honestly it felt natural with nothing on, free and liberating. We walked out there with our heads high.
It appeared that we got out there before other guests again today and we were starting to feel that maybe we were missing out on some kind of group activity, but we weren’t going to let that stop us from doing what we came here to do, stay naked as long as we could and sunbath (no tan lines please). One by one or group the rest of the resort’s guests came back and there was that slightly awkwardness of socialising. ‘Hi there or Lovely day isn’t it’, these were the first little words spoken but we starting to chat a little to one person and it felt good and made me think, what the hell was I worried about!
There was a brief moment when a couple of younger male guests (in their early 30’s maybe) came back into the garden and had to walk past me and my husband sunbathing, from our point of view, we don’t think they were expecting anyone our age (early 40’s) to be there and there was a little awkward ‘Hi’ as they walked past not quite sure where to look. Okay, if I’m honest this did make me laugh a little as I thought I would be the embarrassed/shy one. Still, they seemed nice enough and went on into their room. We saw the again briefly later that day in their swim shorts, but they still seemed a little shy.
This turned out to be the last time we saw everyone but honestly, they all seemed friendly and lovely. I’m not really sure what I was expecting, seedy, creepy, all older men just wanting to look/stare at any woman there (sorry, that’s the English in me I guess) but it was nothing like that at all. Thinking about it now, I honestly wish we had spoken to them all more.
Friday came and it was time to leave. We needed to be out the cabin by 10am so we had decided that we were going to drive through the mountains and stop for pictures of the views on the way to the airport. Our flight wasn’t until 19:30 so we had plenty of time to spare. We spoke and thanked the host Karie for our stay and off we went.
We drove to the beach where it all started for us just a few days before. The weather was nice, it was warming up already and the clouds were leaving so the beach that early seemed like a good idea. We got there and found that clearly other people had the same idea as they were arriving and picking their spot for the day. We walked along here for a few minutes then decided to go back to the car and pick our route through the mountain back to the airport.
There is really only one way you can go through the mountains, so we went that way. The scenery was amazing and to be honest, in some places it reminded me of Tremors (one of our favourite movies)! Some parts of the island were flatter than I thought it would be as I was expecting mountains all over, I’m not really sure why. We drove through a place called Betancuria which is a tourist hotspot but the views were amazing so I can see why.
We did that typical easy thing and stopped off for a McDonalds for lunch. We got to the airport about four hours before our flight as we had to drop off the car and get through security, which honestly you never know how long it will take. Our flight was on time and not very busy at all. There was one question we needed to ask ourselves though at the end of all this, would we do this kind of holiday again?
Yes, as it turns out. We would definitely do it again!! Now we just need to pick where and when…
